Injuries and Conditions
Injuries are common and can occur from inadequate training, improper form, muscle imbalances as well as accidents, falls, and traumas. We treat many injuries from pre/post surgeries, vertigo, sports injuries, and TMJ. We specialize in the spine, orthopedic, and myofascial conditions.
Cumulative Trauma Disorders can be caused from repetitive motions, incorrect posture, or body positions, fast movement, and even from overusing your muscles. CTD’s are disorders of tendons, part of the muscles or nerves. There are two types of CTD’s; Tendon Disorders, and Nerve Disorders. An example of a tendon disorder is tendonitis which is inflammation in the tendon that is caused by overusing your muscle. Carpel Tunnel Syndrome, which is a hand and arm condition that causes numbness and other symptoms, is an example of a nerve disorder.
Carpel Tunnel is a Cumulative Trauma Disorder in the hand and arm that causes numbness, tingling, and other symptoms such as pain, swelling, and weakness of the affected hand that is caused by compression of the Median Nerve. Pain can radiate into the forearm, and it tends to be worse upon wakening in the morning. This pain can cause decreased grip strength and decreased wrist mobility. Our therapists can provide you with therapeutic exercises, gentle stretching, and mobilizations to allow proper movement in the hand and wrist, to allow symptoms to diminish.
Gait Training is a part of physical therapy that helps people improve on standing, walking, along with running assessments. Gait training can help strengthen muscles and joints, helps improve your balance and proprioceptive awareness, improve posture, and builds endurance. Those who may have experienced a stroke, broken legs, or even a knee replacement may want to think about having gait training to help get them back to where they were to prevent future injuries or limitations. We also have vestibular therapists who treat vertigo, Meniere’s, and BPPV (benign paroxysmal positional vertigo).

TMJ stand for Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction. This diagnosis has to do with problems and/or symptoms of the chewing muscles or and/or joints that connect the lower jaw to the skull. This is usually due to the stress on the structures such as the cartilage or muscles around the joint. There can be many symptoms of TMJ. Some include, chewing difficulty, popping sounds when opening/closing the mouth, pain in the face, headache, or locking of the jaw.
Tennis Elbow, also known as lateral epicondylitis, is an inflammation and/or degenerative changes at the common extensor tendons in the forearm. The primary symptom with Tennis Elbow is pain at the outside of the elbow which may travel into the hand. This condition can be caused by overuse and repetitive activities. Physical therapy can provide you with strengthening and stretching exercises to help alleviate the pain.
A whiplash is described as a sudden acceleration – deceleration force that causes your head and neck to make a quick forward and backward movement, most likely during a motor vehicle accident. This occurrence can cause neck pain and stiffness, headache, arm pain, dizziness, and other common symptoms. We will use manual techniques and modalities to help decrease the pain, and progress with strengthening exercises to allow full return to function.
A sprain is a when you stretch or tear a ligament. A strain is when you stretch or tear a muscle or tendon. A fracture is when the bone is completely or partially broken from excessive force. Sprains and strains happen often. We will improve mobility and strength using a combination of modalities, manual techniques, and therapeutic exercise.
A sprain is an injury to a ligament. It occurs when the foot twists or turns beyond its normal range of movement. It can happen tripping over that unexpected object, rolling your ankle while sprinting across a parking lot, or playing in a basketball game landing incorrectly, tearing ligaments in your foot. When this happens, that causes the ligaments to stretch, which results in a sprain. Some treatments we use are range of motion exercises, muscle strengthening exercises, and balance training.
Post-surgical protocols are used in conjunction with your doctor’s guidelines to make sure each healing phase is advanced properly.
Sport Injuries are common and can occur from inadequate training, improper form, muscle imbalances; as well as from accidents, improper equipment and from insufficient “warm-ups” or stretching. At CPPT, we begin our approach using modalities to reduce inflammation, and manual techniques to improve mobility and tissue length. We progress into a specific treatment program for muscle retraining, neuro-core stability, and progressive home program. Our full gym including a Cybex arc trainer, recumbent, and upright bikes, treadmill, TRX and FMS equipment allows us to return our athletes to their prior level of function if not better!
Work-related injuries can often occur. Our programs are designed to help regain functional skills and allow you to return to work safely after an injury. We offer ergonomic-based training to help you adjust your workspace that will provide your body with the proper body mechanics.

We specialize in Total Joint Replacement Rehabilitation. We will follow post-surgical protocols provided by your doctor. Our therapists are fully trained in manual techniques and therapeutic exercise to allow you to return to daily and recreational activities.
A Total Hip Replacement is a surgical procedure that is done to repair the hip joint. This can be a partial or full replacement. The hip joint is replaced with prosthetic substitutes. A hip replacement is done when there is a hip fracture or arthritis in the hip. Hip replacement surgery is one of the most successful operations in medicine. Our licensed Physical Therapists will get you back to your everyday life with the program that they design specifically for your needs.
The “Rotator Cuff” is made up of 4 muscles that are responsible for keeping the shoulder joint stable. A rotator cuff injury is when the rotator cuff becomes inflamed or irritated due to heavy lifting, a fall, or repetitive arm motions. A rotator cuff injury can be classified as any type of irritation, tearing, or overuse of the muscles or tendons. It is one of the most common injuries affecting the shoulder, especially in repetitive overhead activities. Our therapists will work with you to get your range of motion, muscle strength, and stability back.
A “complex injury” is when there are multiple injuries to one body region, or it could be injuries to different body regions. The shoulder complex is made up of the collar bone, breast bone, muscles, ligaments and tendons. Shoulder stability is one of the most important things to have, otherwise it can increase your odds of suffering a shoulder injury. Shoulder injuries can be very complicated and you should seek proper examination, and rehabilitation, so that the problem is corrected from the start.
We treat a wide variety of back and neck pathologies. Some common conditions seen in our clinic are: spinal stenosis, sciatica, degenerative disc disease, spondylolisthesis, and arthritis. Our therapists will provide you with a treatment based around your muscle weaknesses, muscle imbalances, and other deficits established during your full body assessment. Our therapists are trained in the McKenzie Method, Maitland, and Shirley Sahrman’s Movement based impairment Method.
There are two main ligaments in the knee, the ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament), and the PCL (Posterior Cruciate Ligament). These two ligaments “crisscross” to give stability of the knee. The ACL is responsible for several functions in the knee like preventing hyperextension on the knee, helps in side to side movements, and also helps control the amount of rotation the lower leg has at the knee joint. ACL tears happen quite often, and sometimes result in surgery. Some causes of a torn ACL are a rapid change in direction, stopping suddenly while running, or even landing from a jump
An ORIF is an Open Reduction and Internal Fixation, which is a type of surgery that is performed to fix broken bones. This is a 2 step process. The first step is to put the broken bone back into place, and the final step is to put an “internal fixation” in. The internal fixation is placed on the bone, such as screws or plates, and this is done to hold the broken bone together. The main reason for this surgery is when a cast or splint will not heal the fracture correctly.t
Neuromuscular rehabilitation is a specialized treatment program to help eliminate pain and physical restrictions while improving strength. Our ultimate goal is to restore full function to allow individual to return to activities of daily living. Some conditions and diagnoses include: post-stroke, Multiple Sclerosis, balance and walking deficits, neuropathy, etc.
Arthritis is inflammation of one joint or more. This happens frequently because we tend to use the same muscles and joints in a repetitive manor on a daily basis. We will provide exercises that are evidence based to help with your condition. There are manual techniques to improve tissue length, joint mobility, and pain. Overusing your joints can result in arthritis.
Fibromyalgia is a common syndrome where a person has long term pain all around the body, and tenderness in the joints and muscles. Our physical therapists are trained to teach you self-management skills to help you with your fibromyalgia. We can show you how to relieve the pain and stiffness that this syndrome is causing. Our therapists will teach you how to build strength and show you how to relieve yourself from deep muscle pain.
